Bilingual Treasure Hunt Results!
Site News・お知らせ by: JP Button
Sorry for the wait! We are finally ready to release the results of our 1st Anniversary commemorative contest, the Bilingual Treasure Hunt. For those that don’t remember, we had five clues written in Japanese that people would have to try to translate into English and then send us a screenshot that fits the clue.
Curious who won and what the answers are to the clues? Click more to find out!
All of our contestants were very creative and captured the meanings of the clues in their own way. While we of course had our own specific interpretations in mind, we were surprised by the variety of ways people managed to stay true to the original Japanese and create an impressive picture.
First, some awards that don’t have physical prizes to them. All winners were chosen randomly by Kintoki’s Random Numerological Digit Output Attachment with Taro and his cadre of Chocobo accountants double-checking all the results. We decided to each honor one shot that didn’t make the cut, but was a winner nonetheless.

I love the colors! I admit, I’ve taken screenshots in this location as well. Check out the date too! This picture was taken quite awhile ago too.
Elmer’s ザ・ベスト

Kimiko translated this clue as “Gathering of Frogs,” and felt Poroggo Madame the best place to find frogs was gathered around Madame Professor herself. I thought the image of her being a teacher was funny and liked how all the frogs were watching her intently.
Now on to the contest results!
Clue 1 was
思い出の場所
This phrase refers to a place where you made a lot of memories. Some people also took it to mean a place with a lot of memories and sent in pictures of Promyvion areas. That’s ok too! Certainly there are a lot of memories there. The winner of a Tokyo Game Show 2009 T-shirt is….
Arivess! They write:
“The clue means “a place of memories”. I took this to mean my memories, specifically. Or that it could be my memories, at least. This is taken in La Theine Plateau, while I was trying to figure out what would be a place of memories for me, when someone else’s rainbow showed up from the completion of the Summoner quest. The rainbow itself brought back memories rather than the place, but this is the only place it could appear in, so I thought it worked well. Summoner was the first advanced job my friend and I unlocked, and we sat around for nearly an hour afterwards waiting for our rainbow, so it’s a special memory for us.”
Congratulations Arivess!

Clue 2 was
ヴァナ・ディルの感動の絶景
“The most emotionally captivating scenery in Vana’diel”. Vana’diel is filled with beautiful scenery. There are waterfalls that sparkle under the sunlight. There are fireworks that light up our dark summer skies. Everyone has their own favorite spot. The winner of a Tokyo Game Show 2009 T-shirt is…

Omniyoji with a stunning picture from Windurst. Click on the image to see the full version. They write:
The sight of Heaven’s Tower is still as awe-inspiring as the first time my eyes laid sight on it’s majestic beauty.
Congrats!!

Clue 3 was
トランプの代表者
“A representative from a deck of cards”. Of course, it means one of the many Cardians! The winning entry was…

Congratulations Luciferu! You’ll be getting a TGS 2009 T-shirt as well as the Mini-Fafnir & Mini-Shadow Lord figurines.
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Clue 4 was
ケロケロ集い
“Kerokero” is the sound that frogs make in Japanese. Where can you find a gathering of frogs? There are a few places. The winning entry is…

a scene from the past from Zumi! They write:
Clue 4 I translated as “Ribbit Ribbit gathering” So here I am with 3 Toads since they make that sound.
Congrats Zumi! You’ll be getting a TGS 2009 T-shirt as well as an adorable Stuffed Hina Chocobo plushie. Take good care of it!

Finally, Clue 5.

Have you been given permission from the full moon? Our original intent for this clue was the area known as “Moon” which requires the Moongate Pass. You receive the pass after going through the open gate when the moon is full. However, some people came up with other creative answers like receiving the Ark Pentasphere from the the fountain in Ro’Maeve on a full moon. The winner of an incredible cute and noisy Hina Chocobo toy with a code for an in-game Stuffed Chocobo is…

Qeomash with a picture of Ro’Maeve. They write:
Clue 5: At full moon time, allowed access.
Is that Elmer’s handwriting or a font?! lol Anyway, this could be just one place…”moon” in Ro’maeve. So, a shot towards the entrance of the Hall of the Gods from the area behind the Moongates.
It was actually a font, not handwriting, but you had the right idea with moon access being the answer! Congratulations Qeomash!

This just occurred to me but what are you gonna do about T-shirt sizes? Or is Japan so awesome they’ve created the “one-size fits all” tee? I guess it doesn’t matter since you’ve already acquired them and their all probably the same size? lol

when we purchased the tickets that came with the t-shirts for tokyo game show, you were allowed to choose s, m, l, or xl if i remember right. we ended up doing all XL. but even then, a Japanese XL size isn’t the same as an XL in other countries.
